The president of State Audit Office call municipalities corrupt by their functions
László Domokos, president of State Audit Office said that local governments have the highest risk of corruption among all public institutions that they examined. Zsolt Láng, mayor of the II, district of Budapest opposed to this statement.
The President of State Audit office argued refering to local governments broad tasks and responsibilities. The mayor asked for concrete evidencies. LRMI has to add to discussion that first of all the President 2 years ago headid one of the counties self-government so he has to know what his speaking about. Secondly the discussion is very old, and it is coming out generally when the State tries to get power and functions from local gorvenments. The first argument is generally the professionalism and the second is corruption. However local governments in general are not more corrupt than any other public institution or those organised by the central governments. The question is who control what. Deconcentrated institutions are controled and answers central gorvernment's need, while local goeverments are controled directly by local inhabitants, local assembly's sessions are open to local citizens.
